October 2024: Names Lab member Faith Imber presented her research on health of juvenile Hawaiian songbirds at the California Lutheran University Fall Research Symposium. Faith predicted that health of juveniles would be better at high elevation because of low parasitism, but surprisingly, she found body condition was better at low elevation. Congratulations, Faith!

October 2024: Names Lab member Brittany Perez presented her research on prolactin and immunity in juvenile Hawaiian songbirds at the California Lutheran University Fall Research Symposium. Brittany predicted that prolactin, an immunostimulator, would positively correlate with immunity, but interestingly, she found no relationship. Congratulations, Brittany!

September 2024: Meghan Ramirez, doctoral candidate at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and Gabrielle's mentee through the SACNAS MAS program, was recently awarded an NIH D-SPAN (F99/K00) award to support her PhD research investigating the relationship between social/environmental determinants of health and Alzheimer's disease risk. Congratulations, Meghan!

October 2024: In collaboration with Dr. Frédéric Angelier and Ms. Cécile Ribout, Dr. Gabrielle Names presented at the American Ornithological Society Meeting on variation in telomeres across elevation in an endemic Hawaiian songbird. Telomeres were predicted to be shorter at low elevation due to high parasite pressures, but they found the opposite. Congratulation, Dr. Names!
